I know it's been a while but I wanted to give al ittle bit of an udate...

I think there are still like 2 of you who pop over on occasion...lol

So, a quick health update. My stomach seems to be getting better since I've tried several different combinations of meds. I think I got the right one. We'll see. Though, as a result of all the stomach issues, I've lost over 30 pounds...glad that I lost the weight but not happy about the way it was lost.

I thought everything was going along ok and I was just waiting for January 21st to arrive because I have an appointment at the Celiac Center at Columbia Presbyterian. This appointment is supposed to finalize whether or not I do have celiac disease. I hope I don't but if I do, I'll have to deal with it.

Had a minor setback on New Year's day. The Tuesday before NYE, my father had a horrible stomach virus...I'll spare you all the gory details but it but him in bed for about 24 hours. My dad said he never felt so awful in his life and I felt so bad for him. Well, I wake up REALLY early Thursday morning, I'm talking like 4-5am and well...I have the virus. I want to kill my dad. Mind you, he still isn't ok. He's a lot better but not ok. This bitch lingers. In the late afternoon, early evening on Thursday, my dad comes to check on me to make sure I'm still breathing...he doesn't like what he sees. He said I looked really pale and just didn't look good. We call the dr and he says that a lot of his patients have this and if it gets really bad and I get too dehydrated, I'll have to go to the ER for fluids. A little while later, I feel awful and I can hardly stand up. Off to the ER...I got there, had a blood pressure of 60/40...let me tell you...that does NOT feel good. It also scared the shit out of me when I heard the dr tell one of the nurses to make sure that my heart doesn't stop beating. Well, I needed a lot of fluid. I was still dehydrated after 2 litres of fluid but I was feeling MUCH better. It took a little over a week to get back to feeling like a human being but I got there. That was one brutal virus and it's about the closest I ever want to get to death for a LONG time. It was scary as hell but it turned out ok.

For now, I'm feeling ok but sometimes it is one day at a time because some days I feel awful and have horrible stomach pains but those days seem to be less and less. I am ready for them to just go away completely.

That's pretty much all I have so far. Unfortunately it wasn't a great beginning to 2009 but I hope it only gets better. From now on, I don't want to share tales of medical issues and drama...I want to share good things. I'll keep ya posted. Sorry for the long hiatus.

This was kind of inevitable...

I'd say I'm taking a bit of a break but I already have been. Basically, I really haven't been feeling well. It looks more and more like I have an ulcer...according to the dr. So, I have to go through a battery of fun tests and whatnot. Though I am NOT looking forward to it, I am looking forward to feeling better. I've gotten to the point where I just don't really eat because when I eat, I feel worse. Yeah, it's not good. Anyway, I'll be back after I sort this stuff out. I'll still come by and visit others though. I'll be back soon.

Got a Private Plane I Can Borrow?

One of my really good friends from College is getting married on Saturday in Texas and it looks like I'm not going. I've been watching flights for this weekend for a LONG time. Well, here's the problem...I'm boxed into leaving on Friday because Thursday is Yom Kippur. Flying on Friday as opposed to Thursday, makes it a lot more expensive. To make a long story short, it would cost me around $600 including hotel, airfare, gift, etc to arrive in TX on Friday afternoon and leave on a 6am flight Sunday morning. I just can't justify it.

In the beginning, I told my friend that it was just going to cost too much but she kept saying I'd be able to find a good fare and wanted me there and I also wanted to be there for her. So, I never outright just said no. So here I am, it's Monday and the wedding is on Saturday and I have no ticket...that's where the private plane comes in. ;)

I was also supposed to share a room with one of the other girls. I don't feel THAT bad about canceling on her because she originally planned to have her own room so it was just an added benefit that I'd share it with her and cut her cost in half.

I just feel SO horrible that I'm going to miss this wedding. Then I realized that part of the reason she's having her wedding in TX and not in NY is because she wanted to save money. Well, I have to look out for my wallet too and $600 is just a lot of money for a day and a half. The other reason she's having it there is that is where her fiance's family lives and they are a lot of people. In addition, his mother is not all that well.

I've tried so many combinations of trying to get there, it's just not in the cards, or so it seems. I've tried using mileage and I've tried flying to other cities and driving...nothing. This is the other strange thing...I've checked travelocity, priceline, orbitz, etc and they don't have the tickets discounted from actually booking it through the airline at all. So, that's my frustrating tale.

I have to comment on this one...

Wonderful actor, humanitarian and all around great person. As everyone knows, Paul Newman passed away yesterday.

When I first heard the news, I called my mother because she's a huge fan and she attended the Big Apple Circus benefit every year and sat with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. My mother always had the nicest things to say about them. They were unassuming and nice and just wonderful people. That and I always hear about how Joanne Woodward looks amazing and has the most amazing skin.

Though his acting was just amazing and he was a great talent, a lot of my admiration for him comes from his charitable work. He was one of the most philanthropic celebrities out there and just did everything he did as a gentleman. With that, I say, rest in peace and you will be remembered as a great man.

Facebook Strikes Again...

Well, it's all well and good til a friend finds someone you don't want her or anyone to find ever again. So, long story short is this...the last conversation I had with him was on my 25th Birthday...we were both very drunk and admitted we were in love with one another but there was just a hitch...he didn't want to ruin the friendship. Yeah well, since that conversation, there hasn't been a friendship so...well, so...you see why I didn't want him found. Just had to vent.

Also, I found my first crush from elementary school...I was in 6th grade. He turned out pretty well. I am pretty amazed to be honest. He looks very similar which I just find so funny since it's been so long. Found a few others from elementary school too which is interesting.

It's just not so fun when those you don't want found get found and peripherally re-enter your world.

That's it for now...I have to go continue fighting with airlines so I can book a flight to Texas for a wedding. Why is it that I could fly to Europe for less than I can fly to TX? Riddle me that?

Camp visit and a few other things...

I had a fabulous time. It was kind of surreal since I hadn't been there sine 1989 but it was amazing nonetheless. One of the girls I went to camp with from when I first started in 83 was there for the summer, her dad now owns the whole place. It was a little sad because the camp isn't doing so well, it was only at half capacity. Also, the kids are just brats. I'm sorry, they complain about doing activities when we were up at like 7 and did activities all day and then had evening activity then sleep. They were a little pathetic. Many said they don't know how to fold clothes because their maid does it. You get the gist.

There were about 5 if us who actually went to camp together who were there...one is a couple who went to camp together and somehow met up later and got married. I don't know the whole story. We looked around the camp and we reminisced A LOT. We looked at all the old color war plaques and saw the new pool and stable and a whole new area. Of course I forgot my camera but others had theirs so it was all good. I have pics. I saw a woman who was the girls head counselor when I was a camper and now she's the director of the camp. I thought she was ancient when I was a kid...turns out she's 65. I was SHOCKED! She looked the same...I guess she just didn't look so good then. I dunno. Here's a pic of the group of us on the front lawn of camp on the big bench. Ok so blogger didn't put the pic where I wanted it. Whatever. Today, I went to a craft fair near me and saw one of the girls and her husband because they had a booth there. So, I have to give credit to facebook because it's amazing how it all came together. There is now talk of doing a weekend reunion thing at camp one weekend when camp isn't in session. I think that would be a blast.

More on facebook. My 10 year college reunion is in October and my friend made a page for it on facebook to get people interested. Well, I graduated with almost 3000 people and wouldn't you know, it's the people I had zero interest in seeing who are all joining this page. I told my friend that since she's the administrator of the page she needs to delete a select few. ;) we'll see how that goes.

I mentioned growing some tomatoes....well...the plants are now about 10 ft tall and the maters and getting red. I'll take some new pics soon. I'm so proud of myself because I never grew anything from a seed....you know...being a city kid an all. If I wanted green, I went to Central Park. This is also exciting. My neighbor's string bean plant has run amok so it's ALL over my deck. I just picked the first one today and...DAMN...it was GOOD! There's also cucumbers infiltrating my deck...to bad I don't like those. I also have something else growing but I have NO idea what it is. I'm waiting for something to happen. Everyone keeps telling me they're more maters but they look nothing like any other ones I've seen. We'll see what comes from the flowers they now have.

Oh oh...I also have herbs...basil, mint, cilantro, thyme and sage. It's so cool. Again...city kid in me. That's all for now. :)

I'm going to CAMP!!!!

My mom's cousins owned a sleepaway camp so when I was 6, I was shipped off for the summer. I had a blast. I went for 7 summers. Through the magic of Facebook, I have reconnected with people I went to camp with who I haven't spoken to for 25 years. On Saturday, I'm going up to camp with some of the girls I went with. It's a mini impromptu reunion and I CAN'T WAIT! I've been having dreams about camp and there have been so many pictures being posted. This is just SO exciting to me. :)

Now my dad's cousins own a sleepaway camp. My mom's cousins sold theirs and have since passed but my dad's cousins are just fine. Their camp is about an hour or so from my old camp so I'm going to stop there too.

I'll be reliving my youth on Saturday. Here come the 80s all over again. I'll let you know how it goes...you know...all 2 of my readers! :)

I know, I suck...

Anyway...it's been a while. I've been spending less and less time near the computer so that when I am around it, I haven't been posting. So...I live 4 blocks from the beach but haven't been yet. I know...again....I suck. I do do some gardening. It's fun...some of it. I got my first ripe tomato the other day. I'll take some pics and post em.

I had a bbq a few weeks ago for my birthday. It was a blast. I worked a lot cleaning and doing all kinds of things but it was nice to have people around and just relax and have a nice time.

I had my first car accident a few weeks ago. I'm fine and so is the car but...I was at a red light and I was rear ended. The guy was a total asshole. Said he was driving his dad's car and didn't have any info like ins card or registration...you know...the things you're required to carry BY LAW! I was nice and didn't call 911. Had I called 911, he would have been charged with felony hit and run because he left and because there was property damage and personal damage (my back was not happy...I almost ate the steering wheel but I'm fine). So, guy was nice enough to give me his phone 3 before he left and I got his plate #. I told him what it would cost to fix because he didn't want it to go to the insurance co. Well, he said it didn't cost what I said and just acted like a dick. Well, a little birdy I know at a police station ran the plate and got me the info I needed. His insurance company was involved and the adjuster said the damage was more money than I had originally told him. Well, screw him and his rates'll go up now. Fucker. Don't rear end people. Anyway...

Not too much else of interest going on. It's kinda rainy and not nice out today so I'm gonna try my hand at some lime meltaways.

Oh...the other thing...this suburban living thing...neighbors can be really nice. Several of my neighbors are keeping my produce needs filled all summer. I think they think I don't eat...I don't know but I could open a farm stand at the rate it comes in the door. It's nice though. Fresh picked produce tastes pretty damned good.

Now I'm done. I'll try not to neglect the blog as much anymore.

Ok, my first attempt at before and after house pics...

OK so here goes nothing...the pictures weren't cooperating. The before pic is the one where the house is white with the nasty green awnings...the after is the brick. Ok...now I'll do some 'splainin. On the right hand side (where the tyvek wrapping is) is the extension that was built on...it's a 4 ft extension to make the master bed and bath bigger. The house was originally built around 1942 and it was a horrible yellow stucco. Over the stucco was what you see, nasty trailer park looking vinyl siding. The siding was just so gross...it wasn't even on the house in some places. Also, if you touched it, it would bend...it stood away from the house about 6 inches. The awnings were also just gross. The other major change done to the outside was the garage. Originally, it was a garage but then it was made into a room and now it's back to being a garage. The nice thing is that there is heat and central air down there since it was a room (we added the central air).

Ok, next....The front of the house is now all brick as you can see. The sides are shingles but they are vinyl. It really looks like a totally different house. This isn't a complete picture because since this was taken, there is now an iron railing and banister by the stairs. I don't know if you can tell but the porch and stairs are also new. They were concrete that was painted green. Now it's brick and slate. There is also now a mailbox, address numbers and a glass and iron awning over the door so you don't get wet in the rain. On the left side of the house is the deck and that's in the picture that has a lovely finger in the way. On the right side of the house is another deck with the hot tub (the hot tub is right outside my bedroom and there's a door there. :)) There is also an outdoor shower by the tub which you can see and now there is also a door to that deck so it's more closed to the outside.

I think I've rambled on enough...so that's about it. I'll try to get to the inside soon. I'm not quite sure where the before pics are so I have to keep looking. Oh and I managed to fall down the stairs inside the house already. That was fun...I was just a bit bruised but I'm fine.

Ok, time to play catch up...

So, I know...I disappeared. Well, I'm moved and somewhat unpacked. If I never see Home Depot again, it'll be too soon. I'm sorry but the people that work there just don't have a clue...well, most of em. Now Bob...he's a good guy and he was really helpful.

This is my first time living in a house and it's taking some getting used to. I already set off the burglar alarm by accident...oops. I did manage to turn in off in time so the cops didn't have to pay me a visit. Also, neighbors....they sure are friendly. I'm NOT used to this. You see....in Manhattan...you look down and don't acknowledge anyone else's presence. You live your life and they live theirs. Now, I get a wave and a how are you every day. It's nice. The people are nice. I'll get more into them in the future. So far, I only know a few. I also learned that there are some scary ass noises that you hear at night. I was convinced that some Norman Bates-esque person was outside my window the other night. I didn't look...I was scared to be face to face with anyone. I just hoped that if anything happened, the alarm would be tripped and I'd be ok. I did stay up til the sun rose though. I'm in the midst of re-reading Portnoy's Complaint so that kept me company. Yeah, I know....interesting company...what of it. Moving along....

Soon, I'll post some before and after pics of the house...I just have to get them organized. I have to organize the house first. Also, I have yet to jump in the hot tub. I'm not sure what I'm waiting for. It does look quit inviting...I must say. I'll get there. If nothing else, my mom and her bf are coming for mother's day and I'm having some company the weekend after so...I should get in that bad boy soon enough.

I've had an education about landscaping...kinda. What the hell do I know...Central Park was my lawn growing up. The Parks Dept took care of it. What do I know from trees and flowers other than the invincible house plant that I can't kill?

Lastly but absolutely NOT least...I met Loving Annie for tea at the St. Regis when she was in NY. Tea is not something I normally do but it was very nice though pricey....as you'd expect...it was $45 a person...so, not an every day thing. I had some lovely Lemon Verbena tea and yummy munchies....she did a really nice write up that even has pictures so go visit and take a look. :) We had a very nice time. Annie is really sweet...as I thought she would be from reading her blog all this time. I have to say...I felt like our time together flew...we had some great conversation. It was wonderful to hear about her recent travels to Europe and hear about what she had done so far in NY. I really love when people get to come here and see what the city has to offer.

So...I think that's about it for now. I took a break from organizing and re-organizing my kitchen because I was just getting fed up. Let's just say that things are not fitting where I wanted them. It's annoying but it's getting there. I guess. I miss everyone. Thanks for bearing with me in my absence. :)

A Quickie...

and not the good kind AT ALL...sorry I've been MIA. Computer is still fucked. I haven't been home at all. I've been running around like a lunatic working on my dad's house. It's almost done but it's getting insane. So, I am sorry I haven't been in the cyberworld at all but the real world is doing me in because it's taken away all my computer time. I try to check email once a day and sometimes that doesn't even happen. Once I'm moved and settled though, I'll be back. I think I'm moving on the 14th or 15th so...I hope to be around more soon. Miss everyone and hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to be better with email since I have been bad...the rest though...the blog, etc...yeah, that's just gonna have to wait til I move. OK...quickie over....hope you enjoyed! ;)

P.S. I have been trying to read blogs and stuff but commenting is just not happening. Sorry about that. I'm not ignoring anyone. :) Well...maybe some of you ;)

Quick update...

I found out a few days ago that Ro is not gonna make it so that totally sucks ass to put it mildly. Apparently, she's had several strokes and loss of oxygen and blood to her brain so even if she did wake up from the coma, she'd be a vegetable basically...I can't tell you how much this sucks and how angry it makes me but I'm sure you can imagine. The other thing that kinda gets me is that this is the second friend who I was supposed to call and then the next day, tragedy struck. I was supposed to call Ro the day before she went to the hospital. We never spoke. That bothers me. When I was 22, a good friend from HS was in school in Berkely and while driving, she was hit by a mack truck and was killed instantly, I was supposed to call her the day before that happened. So, basically...I'm not gonna put off phone calls anymore. I know it's a somewhat trivial thing but it's really gotten to me. That's that update.

As for my computer...obviously not at all as important at Ro but still a pain in the ass...it died. I put in a new hard drive and now I can't connect to my wireless. I can connect to every other wireless but mine. I was on the phone with verizon for like 5 hours and made multiple trips to circuit city. I hate the computer. It's aggravating me.

Oh and lastly...I am SO wrapped up in this Gov. (well almost former Gov.) Spitzer thing. Everyone I used to work with in the Senate is all over it. It's pretty good political gossip. Come on...80 grand on hookers. Well, he can afford it. Side note...some of you may know but others might not...Spitzer's brother performed my spinal surgery...this whols scandal ALMOST makes me want to have some issues again so I could have reason to make an appt. I won't go that far though, I'm happy that my back is fine. But oh...that would be kinda fun. I have to admit.

Well, I'm off. I've been using an old computer of my dad's that is so slow that it drives me insane. I can double click on IE and then do about 12 things before the web page actually opens. I just can't be bothered. So, I'm just checking email really. Hope everyone is doing well. Miss you guys.

Watch Make Me a Supermodel...

I will admit that I've been watching this stupid show but it is amusing....I got a cool email the other day though. My mom's boyfriend's nephew's girlfriend (I know, I know) owns a vintage clothing store here in NYC. Well, she and the store are going to be on tonight's episode of Make Me A Supermodel onj Bravo. I thought that was pretty cool. Shannon, the owner of the store is a really cool chick and she's super talented. She started ths store from practically nothing and it's become a booming business. She works with a lot of stytlists and dresses a lot of celebs as well. She also supplied clothes for some movies.

She lent me a dress for a rehearsal dinner last year. It was beautiful...vintage Belenciaga. OMG, totally gorgeous and all I had to do was dry clean it so that worked out really well for me. I got SO many compliments on the dress and it was fun to tell people that it was designer and vintage.

The store is beautiful and Shannon has just put so much work into it. Each item has a handwritten tag on it that describes the garment, says what year it's from, the designer and anything else that might be interesting. They tags are really pretty and you can just see how much work Shannon puts in. I felt like she deserved a shout out.

This is the store info:
New York Vintage117 W 25th StNew York, NY zip codePhone: (212) 647-1107
http://newyorkvintage.com/
Take a look.

Oh and my bad news...because of course there's always some...for those who don't know...my computer died Tuesday night. I'm told it's on life support. I hope it can be fixed. We'll see. I will say that I feel like I lost an appendage since my computer was always on it was always within arms reach in the living room. I always multi task and am online while I watch tv at night...I think I'm going through withdrawal. That's it for now...over and out.

Another wonderful week begins....

Well, the good news...my cousin's twins had their first birthday party on Sunday. It was nice to see them so cute and happy after all they went through being born so early. They arrived at 29 weeks for those who need a refresher. I don't have any pics yet but when I get some, I'll post em. They're still little for a year old...just to give you an idea...Isabella's party dress was a size 3-6 mos. Jacob is a little bigger but not much. They're little munchkins but cute nonetheless.

My dad had cataract surgery today. He's doing well...he had the 1st eye done December 17th. Not such a huge deal but spending the day in the hospital is just not fun. At least Susan was there to keep my company. I went to get my dad some water after the surgery and was asked if I wanted some...I declined and the woman asked if my mom wanted some...I told her I didn't know, I'd have to call her and ask. I think she felt kinda stupid since Susan's my dad's girlfriend and not my mom but I thought it was funny. I never understood why people just always assume. Don't they know the saying that assuming just makes an ass out of you and me? Anyway...dad's home resting and I get to play chauffeur for the next week or so...until he is able to resume his own driving....fun stuff.

Lastly but certainly not least...I got some new news on my friend Ro, the one who had the aneurysm in LA. Unfortunately, I didn't get good news. She's no longer in an induced coma...she just hasn't woken up. So, the doctors are not really pleased with that. They've been doing tests to check her brain function and she's not responding well to these tests. So, the doctors will wait and retest because sometimes it takes more time for some people to regain their brain function. I wasn't happy to get this news...obviously but Ro is a fighter and I have to believe that she's gonna pull through. Also, the doctors are going to have to perform a tracheotomy because she's in the coma and she may need a ventilator to make sure her lungs are getting the air they need. I guess the pneumonia has some effect on them. She's been getting a lot of visitors and that makes me happy since I'm not able to be one of them. I want to go out there but I'd rather go when she's awake. I have to just keep a positive attitude and keep hoping and praying for the best.

The other great thing is that a few of her friends opened a bank account for her because well, money isn't coming in. Her last job was doing some freelancing. Though she has medical insurance, she doesn't have money coming in and she's been supporting her mom. When her mom retired, she moved to LA to live with Ro and she basically just has her social security. I'm so thankful she's got such amazing friends who are close to her and have been there for her mom as well. I also feel a little better because now I can at least do something for her since I can't send anything to the ICU. I can help her out a little financially. I can't do much but at least I can do a little. She really is an amazing friend. We've only been friends about a year and a half but she's made such an impact on my life and she's just been an amazing friend. I can't tell you how many times I go to email, call or text her something because something reminds me of her or it's something I know she'll want to know or she'll just laugh at. I can't wait til I get my friend back. I really miss her. Get better Ro! Now damnit!

I guess that's about all I have to report for now.

Sleepwalking...

As a kid I used to sleepwalk ALL the time. I would leave my apartment and just walk up and down the halls. My parents and my neighbors came to expect it so I was always returned promptly.

In sleepaway camp, I once left my bunk and caused quite a stir. I had most of the camp up in the middle of the night looking for me. Turns out I left my bunk and walked across to another bunk and found an empty bed and curled up in it and continued to sleep. I had NO idea what happened. I was about 6. I woke up with one of the male head counselors holding me and carrying me back to my bunk. Oops. It didn't happen again in camp but I know I did give everyone a scare since I was just gone for a few hours.

As I got older, I didn't really sleepwalk anymore. It just seemed to stop. There were times where I would be half awake kind of and get up but I never remembered. I was always told later.

Last night the sleepwalking came back. I woke up around 4am and my room was really warm and I was uncomfortable so I went to the living room and set up camp on the couch with a pillow and blanket. I remember going back to sleep on the couch since I was really sleepy. I woke up in my bed this morning. I have absolutely NO recollection of going back to my bed. My pillow and the blanket were also back in my bed. I remember NONE of this. I woke up all startled because last I had remembered, I was on the couch. It really was a shock because nothing like this has happened to me in like 10-15 years....at least that I can recall. I wonder why all of a sudden this came back. I wonder if it'll happen again. I guess I'll find out.

This week just sucks ass...

I thought I had gotten all the bad news I was gonna get this week....nope. I got a call this afternoon that my friend's mom died this morning. NO idea what happened. She had breast cancer several years ago but she was in remission. I have NO idea what happened. Funeral is tomorrow though. I feel so bad...I just saw her at my friend's wedding in December. Totally sucks.

As for my friend in LA...she's in surgery again. Apparently, the drs were afraid of a stroke and her brain was swelling so they are removing a portion of her skull to allow for the swelling. Here's the thing that was REALLY odd to me...they put the piece of skull in the abdomen for safe keeping. Eventually, she'll need a 3rd surgery to put the piece of skull back. Just nuts if you ask me. Hard to wrap my head around but I just hope everything is ok. So, she's in surgery as I type and I hope it goes well.

As we all know...bad things happen in 3s...well, I really hope that isn't the case this week. I've had enough bad news to last a LONG time.

Well, that's my life at the moment. Fun fun fun...

I'm taking a break...

Unfortunately, I got some really bad news today. A good friend of mine is in critical condition in the ICU with a brain aneurysm. She's stable but it's still not great. I'm told she's going to have some non invasive procedure to try to fix it and if that doesn't work...surgery. The doctors are optimistic...or so I'm told but it's still a rough road ahead. Honestly, I feel kind of numb at the moment as well as feeling a bit impotent since she's in LA and I'm here in NY. I feel like there's absolutely nothing I can do but hope everything is ok. Anyway...I just really don't feel like posting but I'll be back. So please...everyone just hope she's ok and put her in your prayers or whatever it is you do. I appreciate it.

UPDATE: First off, thanks guys...second...she had surgery, she's ok and stable. She'll be in the ICU for at least 2 weeks but it looks like she'll be ok. So far she's been sedated and on pain pills and she's a bit of a demanding patient but it's all good. I hope to try and make a quick trip out to LA when she's feeling better and up to seeing people. :)

RIP

I generally don't do the celebrity death tribute but I felt I had to acknowledge this one. Almost ever day for about 20 years, my father ate breakfast at our local diner. Roy Scheider would eat there as well. After a time, the 2 started realizing they were always there at the same time and started eating breakfast together. So, for many years...he was my father's breakfast companion. I didn't go for breakfast since I was in school but there were other times I went to the diner and I did meet him on occasion. He was a really nice man. My father always said wonderful things about him and really enjoyed his company so I read this news and broke it to my father. As expected, he was kinda upset by the news. So, his family are in my prayers and I hope he rests in peace.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) -- Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie "Jaws," has died. He was 75.

Roy Scheider speaks at a gala in 2004. Scheider died Sunday at an Arkansas hospital.
Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The
hospital did not release a cause of death.

However, hospital
spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple
myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy
for the past two years.

Scheider received two Oscar nominations,
for best-supporting actor in 1971's "The French Connection" in which he
played the police partner of Oscar winner Gene Hackman, and for
best-actor for 1979's "All That Jazz," the autobiographical Bob Fosse
film.

However, he was best known for his role in Steven Spielberg's1975 film, "Jaws," the enduring classic about a killer shark terrorizing beachgoers and well as millions of moviegoers.

Widely hailed as the film that launched the era of the Hollywood
blockbuster, it was also the first movie to earn $100 million at the
box office. Scheider starred with Richard Dreyfuss, who played an
oceanographer.

In 2005, one of Scheider's most famous lines in
the movie -- "You're gonna need a bigger boat" -- was voted No. 35 on
the American Film Institute's list of best quotes from U.S. movies.

That year, some 30 years after "Jaws" premiered, hundreds of movie
buffs flocked to Martha's Vineyard, off the southeastern coast of
Massachusetts, to celebrate the great white shark.

The island's
JawsFest '05 also brought back some of the cast and crew, including
screenwriter Carl Gottlieb and Peter Benchley, who wrote the novel that
inspired Spielberg's classic. Spielberg, Scheider and Dreyfuss were
absent.

Scheider was also politically active. He participated in
rallies protesting U.S. military action in Iraq, including a massive
New York demonstration in March 2003 that police said drew 125,000
chanting activists.

Hell Update...

I spoke to the mother of the bride and all is well. Apparently the maid of honor didn't tell her I offered my house. Nor did she tell her anything that I had said. Also, MOB said she heard the restaurant that the MOH had suggested sucks. Isn't it nice when people communicate? Yeah...it is. That said, I have calmed down. I feel MUCH better and I think everything will work out JUST fine.

I also have to say this even though it has nothing to do with the post....OMFG...that was the best Superbowl. I almost had a heart attack in the last 2 minutes but it was a great game and I am SO happy that the Giants were able to give it to NE. Such a nice feeling. My friend walked in front of the tv when there was about a minute and a half to go. I had to push her out of the way and tell her she's not see through. ;) Oh, she's the bride in the above story actually....I'm still in the wedding. lol The only thing is...I have to go run some errands in Manhattan tomorrow and I think I'm gonna get stuck in the middle of the parade area. I'm not so thrilled about that...oh well. Once when the Yanks won, I was working near city hall at the time and I left to go get lunch and a glimpse at the parade (I had some kind of special ticket that would get me in to see the who to do. I couldn't deal with the crowds so I went back to the office (my window overlooked city hall park) yeah, they wouldn't let me in to the area to get back to my office. I was like...fine, I'll go home. I even showed my work ID and all my info...I was working for a state senator at the time...he found out I was stuck and I was telling the office manager on the phone that I was stuck. He got on the phone...yelled at me and demanded I put the cop not letting me through on the phone. Well, I was allowed to go back to work.

OK, so this post went off on a tangent...it happens. Deal. :)
